What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Local storage is a similar feature that lets a website keep information on your device. Neither can run programs or read other files on your device.
We use both to make the website work, to remember your choices and, only if you agree, to understand how the website is used.
The types we use
- Essential - needed for the website to work, such as signing in, checkout and remembering your cookie choice. These cannot be switched off.
- Functional - remember things that make the site easier to use, such as your basket, recently viewed products and recent searches. They stay on your device or are used only by us.
- Analytics (only after consent) - help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. These are set only if you accept them.
Cookies we use
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sf_consent | Stores your cookie choice so we do not ask again on every page | Essential | 1 year |
| sf_session | Keeps you signed in to your account (httpOnly, not readable by scripts) | Essential | Session, or 30 days if you choose to stay signed in |
| sp_sess | Keeps your shop and checkout session (httpOnly) | Essential | Session, or 30 days if you choose to stay signed in |
| sp_idem | Prevents the same order being placed twice if a page is refreshed or a button is pressed twice | Essential | Session |
| sf_utm | Records the first and last campaign source that brought you to the site, so orders and form enquiries can be attributed | Functional | 30 days |
| sf_rv | Remembers products you recently viewed | Functional | 30 days |
| sp_vid | Anonymous visitor ID for our own first-party analytics | Analytics (only after consent) | 1 year |
Local storage we use
These items are kept in your browser’s local storage. They stay on your device and are not sent to us with every page.

|---|---|---|---|
| sp_recent_q | Your recent searches, shown as suggestions | Functional | Until you clear it |
| Cart | Items in your basket | Functional | Until you clear it or check out |
| Wishlist | Products you have saved for later | Functional | Until you clear it |
| Compare list | Products you have added to compare | Functional | Until you clear it |
| Theme and palette | Your light or dark mode and colour choice | Functional | Until you clear it |
| Accessibility preferences | Text size, high contrast, reduce motion and underline links settings | Functional | Until you clear it |
Optional third-party analytics and advertising
The owner of this website may choose to switch on:
- Google Analytics 4 - to measure visits and how pages are used.
- Meta pixel - to measure the results of adverts on Facebook and Instagram.
If these are switched on, they load only after you give consent. We use Google Consent Mode v2, which means Google tags respect your choice: until you accept, they do not set analytics or advertising cookies. If you decline, they stay off.
These providers set their own cookies with their own names and durations. Their privacy policies explain how they use the data.
What we do not do
- We do not use cookies to collect prescription or health information.
- We do not sell cookie data.
- We do not set analytics or advertising cookies before you consent.
Your choices
When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics. You can:
- Accept - essential, functional and analytics storage is used.
- Decline - only essential and functional storage is used.
You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in the website footer. Your new choice is saved in the sf_consent cookie.
Clearing cookies and storage in your browser
You can also delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Look for “Privacy”, “Cookies” or “Site data” in your browser’s menu. If you clear them:
- you will be signed out
- your basket, wishlist and compare list will be emptied
- your theme and accessibility settings will reset
- the cookie banner will appear again
Blocking essential cookies may stop sign-in and checkout from working.
Changes to this policy
If we add or change cookies, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change needs your consent, we will ask again.
